JUNE 2018 NEWSLETTER

Whew! Where did spring go? Seems like only yesterday the trees were budding and the daffodils were in bloom. Now the trees are green and lush, and the heady scent of honeysuckle wafts in through your open car windows—that is, IF you dare drive with them open, because it is SO HOT!! I know everyone is busy with their gardens, with their families, with their vacations, but I hope you are taking some time to sew, sew, sew! We have some wonderful classes and mini-retreats to help you achieve that goal! Sign up for several, and enjoy some “ME” time!

In stitches,

Denise

UFO CLUB 2018 is ongoing
and you can still get some projects finished before the holidays

Do you have piles of unfinished fabric objects (UFO’s) lying around? If so, join us on the first Saturday of January, at 9 am, and prepare yourself for a treat! Our club challenges you to shoot down your UFO’s one chunk at a time! Call for more details, or just come to that first meeting with a list of up to 12 projects (or parts of bigger projects) that you would like to finish before the year is up! We will help motivate you to get them done. Participation is free, and door prizes are given at each meeting. Call for more info.

UPCOMING EVENTS AND CLASSES:

TUCKER UNIVERSITY: This ongoing class meets the third Saturday of every month, from 9 am to 1 pm. Each month, we explore the many uses of a particular Studio 180 Design tool by Deb Tucker. These tools allow you to construct slightly oversized units, then trim them down to exact sizes. Using her tools will make you a better quilter, without a doubt! Tucker University Classes are $50 (unless otherwise noted) and include the tools and technique sheets used in the class. Jump in at any time, whether you’ve taken prior classes or not!          Instructor: Justine Burris

JUNE 16: RAPID FIRE LEMOYNE STAR

Finally, a tool and technique that will allow any quilter to quickly, easily, and accurately piece traditional Lemoyne Star blocks in 10 different sizes! The block units are strip pieced, assembled without using any “Y” seams, pieced so that the blocks themselves are slightly oversized, so at the end each can be trimmed to an exact size. Deb’s step by step directions and Constellation bonus quilt project will have you turning Lemoyne Star blocks out by the dozens. A truly addicting ruler and process.

    JULY 21: CORNER POP

Finally, a tool and technique that will give you high success adding fabric corners to basic shapes. For years we’ve been layering small squares on big squares, marking, & stitching on a diagonal line, then hoping everything lines up when we fold the small corner section back into place. If you’ve tried it, you know the pitfalls: too big, too short, too crooked and way too wasteful. No more. With your new Corner Pop tool, you will be able to trim rather than mark, add an oversized replacement triangle and then square everything to a perfect size. In twenty-two different sizes - whole, half, and quarter inches. Increased success without undue stress for every level of quilter. What’s not to love!

AUGUST 18: SPLIT RECTS

Finally, a tool for dealing with pieced rectangles that is easy to use and accurate. The Split Rects ruler gives you all you need to make perfect units every time: charts for the starting strips, guide lines for cutting the elongated triangles, an angled edge for easy cutting, and a trim down section that enables each pieced unit to be quickly and exactly trimmed to the desired size with perfect placement of the angled seam. Another great tool that is exactly right for your next quilt!
